There are many causes of pain. We feel pain because some agent is stimulating the "pain" receptors in our skin or body. Most of the time we know exactly what that agent is - physical trauma. However, as we grow older, other things may cause us pain due to peripheral neuropathy (PN). Neuropathy is a term that simply means that something is seriously interfering with the normal metabolism and physiology of a nerve cell. PN means that there is neuropathy outside of the brain and spinal cord.
Other causes of PN besides physical injury are parasites, bacterial and viral infections, malnutrition, autoimmune disorders, inherited conditions, toxins, environmental stressors and the result of diseases like diabetes.
Revive TCM Clinic can help manage your pain related to many chronic diseases, depression and pregnancy through acupuncture, massage and herbal medicine.
Mental stress in today's lifestyle can be an almost daily occurrence for some people. You can go to bed stressed and wake up stressed whether it is from personal relationships, working conditions or lack of sleep. Stress can be placed upon you from others, or pressures you place on yourself, or just from the everyday pressures of living in our modern society.
Stress is made worse by a poor diet with a high intake of refined sugars, a lack of exercise and insomnia. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine may help relieve stress and sleep difficulties. Physical health and mental health mutually affect each other. A core principle of Traditional Chinese Medicine is that the body and mind are inseparable, and treatment is aimed at balancing the whole system.
Natural Chinese therapies may help in your journey to leave your addictions behind. Notably, we may be able to assist in your efforts to quit smoking.
Once you have decided you are ready to quit smoking, acupuncture-dry needling and other treatments can be helpful allies on a number of fronts.
Sneezing, sniffling, watery eyes, nasal congestion and pain, itchy rashes and food intolerances: allergy symptoms can be very annoying and disruptive.
At Revive TCM Clinic, we use a combination of acupuncture/dry needling and Chinese herbal formulas (teas) to help you manage your allergy symptoms.
Chronic Fatigue is described as a chronic persistent or relapsing debilitating fatigue that does not get better with bed rest. Associated symptoms can include mild fever, sore throat, painful swollen glands under the arms, neck or groin, muscle weakness, headaches and sleep disturbances.
Chronic Fatigue often occurs in conjunction with a chronic viral infection like Glandular Fever or Ross River Fever. Sometimes even a blood test may not reveal the problem virus as sensitive equipment is needed to detect such.
Chinese Medicine uses a mix of modalities to manage chronic fatigue. Practitioners combine techniques such as acupuncture, Chinese herbs, moxibustion and recommends lifestyle changes to manage the condition
For those who do not have daily bowel movements, symptoms like abdominal pain, reflux, heartburn, eczema, dermatitis, headaches, neck and lower back pain and bloating can become a constant companion.
We may be able to provide relief for some of your symptoms and promote more regular bowel movements.
Fibromyalgia mostly affects women between the ages of 20 and 50 years of age. It is essentially "pain in your fibrous tissues", characterised by chronic, widespread, severe muscular aching, pain and stiffness, accompanied by insomnia and fatigue.
The pain the sufferer feels is very real and maybe sometimes debilitating.
70-90% of Fibromyalgia sufferers will also have one or more of the following symptoms:
sleep disturbances, headaches, swollen feet, numbness or tingling, difficulty thinking and/or concentrating, dizziness and hyper sensitivity of the sensory organs.
In Chinese medicine, we look at Fibromyalgia, as a liver-spleen disharmony. This means that the Qi (chi) or energy of the liver energy system is depressed and stagnant, and the spleen Qi is weak. However, other energy system organs may be involved as well. Because every patient with Fibromyalgia has a slightly different medical pattern discrimination, each patient's treatment is individualised.
Through natural therapies we may be able to help relieve your pain related symptoms stemming from the Fibromyalgia.
